Johann Vargas, M.A.
Mr. Vargas was born in Caracas, Venezuela. His interest in music commenced at an early age with the influence of Latin American and Caribbean rhythms. He obtained his Bachelors and Masters in Piano performance under the direction of Dr. Dale Parkinson in Boise State University in Boise, Idaho, where he was awarded first place in the Concerto-Aria Competition as an undergraduate with the performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 in B minor, and as a graduate with the performance of Liszt’s Totentanz. Mr. Vargas was a show pianist and stage band director for the Hughes Brothers Celebrity Theater in Branson, Missouri, where he performed hundreds of live performances in addition to composing and arranging music. He has performed as guest soloist with the Magic Valley Symphony and the Meridian Symphony. Mr. Vargas has a full time studio in Dunkley Music in Meridian, Idaho, as part of the Dunkley School of Music.

Alexis Feo-Fernández, M.A., A.B.D
Mr. Feo-Fernández has appeared in recitals and with chamber ensembles and orchestras throughout the United States, Turkey, Venezuela, and his native Cuba where he made several recordings for Cuban National Radio and Television. He made his debut at age eighteen performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Matanzas Symphony for Cuban National Radio. Also in Cuba, Alexis won second prize in the UNEAC National Piano Competition, as well as first prize in the ISA National Piano Festival and the Amadeo Roldán National Piano Competition. He was also a competitor in the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and was a finalist in the Teresa Carreño International Piano Competition. Alexis was the winner in the graduate division of Boise State University’s Concerto-Aria competition. He was also the graduate division winner of the University of Memphis Concerto Competition, as well as the first prize winner of the university’s first Mozart Piano Sonata and Piano Solo competitions. In 2009, Alexis was invited to be a member of the jury at the 4th International Pera Piano Festival and Competition in Istanbul, Turkey. Alexis received his Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Havana and his Master of Music Performance from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. He did his doctoral studies at the University of Memphis Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, where he studied with and was assistant to Victor Asunción.

Alysha Karle, B.A.Ms.
Karle has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with an emphasis in piano. For most of her life she has been involved in and passionate about all things related to music. As an avid pianist who studied with Marilyn Clemons, Lana Bodnar and Neil Di Maggio, she has arranged hymns, performed in competitions and public recitals, and won several awards from the Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation and Santa Barbara Music Club. She is a Suzuki teacher who has taken registered courses with Caroline Fraser and continues to pursue ongoing education in the Suzuki Method for piano. Additionally, she loves to accompany for church services, choirs, instrumentalists, and musical productions. Friendly, patient and knowledgeable, Alysha has enjoyed over 8 years of working with children from preschool through high school. When she’s not near the piano, she can be found quilting, running and enjoying her huge family.

Esteban Anastasio, M.M.

Mr. Anastasio is a professional guitarist. He has been playing guitar for over 25 years. Prior to moving to Boise, Esteban spent 15 years in Atlanta, Georgia living and working as a professional musician. Esteban was a professor of guitar at Georgia State University and played in various professional groups and ensembles while touring around the Southeast. Here in Boise, Mr. Anastasio is the founding member of an all-acoustic Mediterranean modern music ensemble called Tambalka as well as the lead electric guitarist for the African Rock group Afrosonics. He performs frequently as a solo classical and flamenco guitarist in various venues around Boise. Mr. Anastasio is a dedicated musician and educator and has helped numerous students master the art of playing the guitar. He specializes in classical/finger-style and Flamenco guitar as well as electric guitar mastery. Esteban focuses on great form and techniques to get students playing extremely quickly. Methods in intermediate and advanced song writing and improvisation are also available. Esteban is now teaching private customized lessons for beginner and advanced students and will be implementing guitar classes at the Dunkley School of Music.

Dr. Jane Williams, D.M.A.

Dr. Jane Williams, D.M.A. Dr. Williams holds degrees in saxophone performance and pedagogy. She earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master of Arts at the University of Iowa. Her Bachelor of Arts is from Montana State University-Billings. She is on the music faculty pool list at the College of Western Idaho, and is the studio coordinator and program director at Dunkley Music. Prior to moving to Idaho, Dr. Williams was a Senior Lecturer in Music at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and an Applied Music Associate at Grinnell College, in Grinnell Iowa. She was a certified judge for the Iowa All-State band, and a certified adjudicator for the Iowa High School Music Association. During her time as a student, she performed in a variety of concert, chamber and jazz ensembles. As a member of the University Saxophone quartet, she was honored to advance to the Music Teacher’s National Association national chamber music competition. She played lead alto saxophone in the New Venue Big Band for 12 years and played regularly with the Cedar Rapids Municipal Band. As the owner of the J. Williams Saxophone Studio, her students were well-known for placing in the Iowa All-State Band for sixteen years in a row, and for winning places in multiple regional honor bands and honor jazz ensembles. Her students held the highest chair placements in their school ensembles. Two students have been featured on the National Public Radio show, “From the Top.” In Boise, her students hold top chairs and are section leaders. They have earned places in the Boise City honor band, and in 2015, three of her students were honored to win places at the Idaho All-State Band. Though her students have gone on to a wide variety of careers, most of them continue to play in college and beyond. Those who continued in music have gone on to win places in major saxophone studios at Northwestern University, University of Minnesota, University of Iowa, University of Missouri-Columbia, University of Northern Iowa and many more. Former students can be found teaching music, studying in master’s and doctoral programs, composing, directing, and performing throughout the country. Her students have won many scholarships to help with college tuition. Jane can be seen playing with the Kings of Swing and the Treasure Valley Concert Band. She also performed a solo recital in 2014 as a featured artist at the Boise Tuesday Musicale monthly meeting and was honored to play in two concerts with the Boise Philharmonic. She looks forward to collaborating with local artists throughout the year.

Holly Kassel
Holly Kassel joined the Yakima Symphony Orchestra as their 3rd Clarinet/Bass Clarinet in 2014. Prior to this appointment, Kassel was a touring member of the 25th Anniversary North American production of *Les Miserables* from 2011-2013. She has also held positions with the Boise Philharmonic, Opera Idaho, Boise Baroque, Oregon East Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, and Fort Collins Symphony. Kassel received her Master of Music from Northwestern University and her Bachelor of Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has performed in many music festivals including Oregon Coast Music Festival and Brevard Music Festivals Faculty Orchestra under the direction of Keith Lockhart. An avid educator and chamber musician, Holly Kassel is currently an adjunct faculty member at College of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University and is a founding member of the Boise chapter of Classical Revolution.

Cord Breuer, B.M.
Mr. Breuer is a Graduate Assistant for Dr. Joe Tornello with the Boise State University Blue Thunder Marching Band. He holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Education from Boise State University and is completing a Masters of Music in Music Education from Boise State University as well. He is currently studying trumpet with Dr. Alex Noppe, and previously with Marcellus B. Brown, Justin Stamps and Keith Weigandt. Prior to pursuing his Master’s at Boise State, Cord taught at Middleton High School in Middleton, Idaho as the Director of Bands, Orchestra, and Guitar. As a director, he increased his student-musician involvement, increased enrollment in the marching band and added ensembles. His students performed in festivals and were selected for All-Northwest, All-State, All-American Marching Band, All-Star honor bands, and honor marching bands. During the Summer, he is a staff member at the Boise State Summer Chamber Music Camp where he teaches trumpet techniques and brass ensembles. As a performer, Mr. Breuer was the 2012 featured soloist for the Las Vegas Maaco Bowl with the Keith Stein Blue Thunder Marching Band. Mr. Breuer’s private students have placed in the All-Northwest and All-State Bands, State-Solo competitions and many have continued on to pursue music after high school.

Janette Kurz, M.A.
A native of Bulgaria, Janette Kurz started her professional violin career at age five. At age eight she won the Bulgarian National Championship in the adult division and at age nine Janette became the youngest student in the Bulgarian State Music Academy. Ms. Kurz toured all over Europe as a child prodigy, performing and winning numerous prizes and competitions in Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Ms. Kurz graduated from the Sofia Music Academia with a Master’s degree in Performance and Teaching. She held her first Professorship of Violin in the Sofia Music Conservatory, while continuing to tour internationally. Janette is now married to Robert Kurz and has performed regularly with the Pacific Symphony of Orange County, CA. Janette has also performed in Disney’s motion picture Fantasia 2000, as well as several TV series including Columbo and Disney’s Jet Jackson. Janette has performed live with Smokey Robinson, Michael W. Smith and worked with Sony Pictures and Universal Studios in Hollywood. She has recorded the music for several albums of The Moody Institute –“Journeys to the Edge of Creation” as well as on numerous recording artists’ albums. Janette is a currently a member of the Boise Philharmonic, and is a member of the faculty at Northwest Nazarene University. She and her husband Robert are currently residing in Boise, Idaho, where they are raising their daughter and son.

Jessica Harned, B.A.
Ms. Harned graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Boise State University in 2012. She has been running her violin studio ever since and is a proud Idaho native. Jessica is currently a member of Oregon East Symphony and a substitute with the Boise Philharmonic. Her musical career has included performances with artists such as Yo-Yo Ma and solo performances with the Idaho community orchestra and the Serenata Orchestra. In addition, Ms. Harned has filmed pop-classical music videos for which she helped compose and arrange music. She also performs as a violinist and vocalist in Mariachi Sol de Acapulco. Jessica Harned has a strong desire to share her knowledge of music and violin and is excited to begin teaching through the Dunkley School of Music.

Josh Barro, B.M.

Josh Barro is a trombonist and educator in the Treasure Valley. Mr. Barro earned his B.M. in Music Education from Boise State University. His primary teachers were Dr. David Mathie and Dr. Sarah Paradis. He has also studied with notable trombone teachers/performers in the Los Angeles area: Andy Malloy, Steve Trapani, and James Miller. Currently, Mr. Barro is an active freelance musician and private instructor. During his time at Boise State, he performed in numerous ensembles including Symphonic Winds, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble, Trombone Choir, Blue Thunder Marching Band, Brass Quintet and All-Campus Concert Band. He has also played with Opera Idaho and the Hymns of Thanksgiving Orchestra. Mr. Barro has been teaching trombone and euphonium lessons to students of all ages since 2012. His goal as an instructor is to help develop each student into a better musician through an intensive study of their instrument and its music. At the core of each lesson is the focus on fundamental skills required on the instrument to master any musical challenge that the student may face. His students have had successful auditions at their school programs and for Idaho All-State. During his free time, Mr. Barro enjoys photography, basketball, music composition and arranging.

Dr. William Wharton

Dr. Wharton is a native of New Orleans, where he graduated from Tulane University. He studied with Gordon Epperson at Louisiana State University and Ohio State University, where he received his B. M. degree in cello; he received his M.M. degree from the University of Oklahoma, and his D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) degree at the University of Arizona. He did further study—as principal cellist—at the Congress of Strings under Theodore Salzmann and Lome Monroe, and at the Aspen Music Festival with Claus Adam. Dr. Wharton was also principal cellist with Symphony Orchestras in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Spokane, Washington, Tucson, Arizona and Youngstown, Ohio as well as assistant principal cellist of the Oklahoma City Symphony. In all of the above areas Dr. Wharton has been active as a teacher and performer, serving on the faculties of the University of Oklahoma. Eastern Washington State College, the University of Wisconsin and Youngstown State University while concertizing and appearing for both radio and TV with the Mutual Broadcasting System, the Armed Forces Radio Network, the National Educational Television, and the Youngstown State University Radio Station. Currently Dr. Wharton is Professor of Cello at the University of Idaho. Dr. Wharton has been a recipient of several prizes including a William Perry Award from the Louisiana Music Teachers Association, a Holschue String Award from the Oklahoma Bloch Competition and a Congress of Strings Award from the American Federation of Musicians. Dr. Wharton supplies yet further evidence of the connection, so often observed, between Science and Music: his first degree, from Tulane, was a B.S. in Chemistry.
